Description
Up for auction a wax soda cup in classic red and white from 1950's diners advertising Coca-Cola and Ed Debevic's in Chicago, Illinois. The Restaurant was originally conceived by Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises co-founder Rich Melman, Ed Debevic’s debuted in Chicago in 1984, and the throwback diner with a side of snark expanded to other cities including New York, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. LEYE later sold the chain. Fans may recall signs bearing phrases with helpful prompts such as “Tipping is not a city in China” and “Eat and get out,” as well as glittery vinyl booths and the itsy-bitsy “World's Smallest Sundae". A location in downtown Milwaukee, the last remaining location outside Illinois, closed in 2001.The cup measures 6 7/8" high from top to bottom, top diameter is 3 7/8", bottom diameter is 2 1/2" and weighs 0.5 ounces prior to packing for shipping. Will ship in a 6x6x8 box.
This piece is in good preowned condition with some minor wear consistent with age and use. Both the lip and foot have some bruising, bends and creases. There is a spot on the exterior side, above the bottom white line, where the wax puddled. I see a few scrapes and wear to the wax on the outside of the cup, mostly around the foot. There is another bend in the wax next to one of the bottles you can see from the inside.
