Description
New Iron Machine and Design is proud to offer a newly manufactured replacement for the often damaged Atlas Milling Machine Part #M1-251B - Eccentric Knob.
This part wasn't designed to exactly duplicate the external dimensions of the original eccentric. Rather, this part is redesigned to take advantage of the materials and process available today and to correct the fundamental weak points and shortcomings apparent in the original design. While mostly made of polymer, it is actually stronger in the critical stress areas than the factory cast ZAMaK part.
The key design feature is that the polymer body of the part is built around a bronze bearing.
It is the bronze bearing that is actually the friction bearing component that contacts and interfaces with the head stock, the backgear, and the locking collar
.The grasping knob protrusion is built shorter and stouter than the original to address the most common point of failure in the original design. I encourage you to click through the detail photos to see an annotation of how these design features come into play.
One final note: This part replaces the original taper pin with an included role pin. A roll-pin punch is recommended for ease installation.
Also,
this listing is for part M1-251B - Eccentric only.
You will need to re-use your own parts M1-253 Plunger, 9-157 Spring, and 9-729 Knob to complete the assembly.
ABOUT US
: Here at New Iron Machine & Design LLC we have a passion for the "Old Iron" machines that were used by skilled craftsmen when it was just
expected
things would be made in America - and made to last. With many of our machines decades old or older, it is only natural that even the best of machines will inevitably require replacement parts and upgrades to keep running for decades more to come. Our philosophy is based on the idea of "New Iron": the combination of modern manufacturing technology such as Computer Aided Design and Additive Manufacturing with a traditional belief that things should still be made in America, made to last, and made to high quality standards.
Have an idea for something you think we should offer? We would love to hear from you.
